“Getting an outside perspective from other successful CEOs is incredibly beneficial to me. I look at the CEO Collective as a sharpener, a place where I can be challenged and held accountable as CEO so I can continue to be my best.”
I’d been running the Boston-based ad agency Allen and Gerritsen for 25 years when I joined Katahdin Group's CEO Collective. I’ve always embraced being a challenger of the status quo, but felt that if I wanted to take the company to the next level, I would benefit from an outside peer view.

My group provides me with more perspective and allows me to get out of the agency world. My CEO peers hold me accountable in an empathetic way as I work to fulfill the promise of A&G. These folks are there to make sure I keep moving the business forward, their only goal is helping me be successful. The outside in perspective is inspiring and helps me think differently.

The best advice I can give is whenever you think you’ve learned and done it all, that’s the time to be concerned that you’re becoming the status quo. I would encourage others to consider getting out of their comfort zone and opening themselves up to peer learning, which will continue to make you a more well-rounded and contemporary leader.
